The 2022 Juneteenth Celebration held at Warinanco Park, Roselle, NJ featured the third edition of Grace Oakley's children's book, “In My Own Special Way.”
This colorful book is a celebration of children around the world and their abilities to learn, grow and develop at a pace that is uniquely theirs. This book is the first book of the “In My Own Special Way” series and was inspired by Grace capturing the daily growth of infants and toddlers. She became fascinated by their growth because her previous work with preschoolers was so different.
This book is a part of a series created to build self-esteem in children and demonstrates how children learn and explore freely in their own unique way. Grace takes children and their parents into a world where children are loved unconditionally and accepted for who they are.
Grace Oakley illustrates children doing everyday activities in their own unique way using real-life photos. The book expresses how children can relate to each other with similar experiences. “In My Own Special Way” is an easy, fun read for children, parents, and friends because of the repetition of words that encourages reading independently.
